Temple Floor Design WIP

I'm currently working on tying down the concept art that I will model to for my next animated project.  Here's a WIP for the floor design of the environment for my project:

Unfortunately I'm without a scanner for the next few weeks, so any process work that I post from here on out will probably have to be in digital form first like this one.

2011 Summer Figure Drawing Sketchbook

I've been meaning to upload samples from my summer sketchbook from this year.  It was only after finals were just about over was when I had time to scan through it.  Here are some of the drawings I did from that sketchbook, most of which are comprised of figure drawings.  They are in no particular order:

This one was a page spread with some thumbnail gestures and some bridgman studies.

Some Animation Projects

I've been meaning to upload a few things from animation projects that I've been working on.  This semester our class ran through our first run of 3D junior animation projects, so each of us made a brief, short 3D animation as a way to introduce us to the pipeline.  These were solo projects, so each of us were responsible for creating just about everything in the animation.

So after a semester of work, here's my shot at it:

Further back in my blog is the character sheet for the guy running there, Fahrok.

Looking forward, I'm taking a lot more effort for the prep work for next semester's solo animation project, so in the first step in preparing for it, I've made an animatic to block in all of the major parts of my animation before I really put it into production.

Without further ado, here it is:

With just a semester to complete this, it's got to be short, and hopefully as sweet as possible.  I'm hoping to have as much of the planning as done as possible before I take a step into the projects classroom the first day.  I'm currently working out some of the character design, as well as what the environment will look like.  I'm trying to borrow the style of Windwaker, as well as the great environmental style of Orb, a 3D environment artist to the table for this project.

Sketches and process work to come soon.

Survived!

At last, another semester is finally done.  I'm feeling a bit sluggish and I've got a fairly size-able art dump to unload here, so bear with me.

Starting off, here's an old western building that I made over two weeks:

The props around the building were made over another week.  Here's some shots of each, including a bonus agave plant!

Next up, I've got some more environment works:

Finally got to updating this medieval background painting.

Here's some old sketches of some stuff around.  Here's my kitchen, and one of the buildings that's around my place.

Last thing I'll post for tonight are some works dealing with an animation project that I've worked on over the last semester.

Happy to be done, though it hasn't quite sunk in that classes are over.  I'll probably need a day or two to recover before I do anything really productive.  Skyward Sword sounds like a nice way to chill for a bit, considering I've hardly played it since I got it.  But sleep will likely come first.

To my classmates that still have finals, keep it up!  Don't give in.

A quick post before I start packing for Thanksgiving break.  Here's a project focusing on character textures.  Textures were done by me, and the model was done by Mashru Mishu:

This was my first introduction to using glow maps as well.  I had quite a bit of fun during the last parts of this project when things started to come together.

Lastly, Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!  I hope everyone, especially my classmates, can get some rest, even if it's a little.

A Busy Week

Lots of stuff to do this week.  In class, we're starting to brainstorm stories for an animation project that's going to take place next semester.  Among other things, that's weighing quite a bit on my mind.  Though in the meantime, here's some more life drawing sketches, as well as some CG work I've been doing in the last few weeks:

Here's some CG work, starting off with an old cannon that I modeled and textured.  Forgive the enlarged view, for some reason the site inverts the image when you preview it.  The thumbnails seem unaltered, so until I get better images, here's what I have:

And to focus more on texturing, I practiced on an previously done model of a lantern.  Without touching the UVs or the model, I simply just did the textures from scratch:

Getting that glass to look right was the big hurdle for this.

Sometimes I miss doing more of the manual, non-tech side of arts.  I like CG art greatly, but it's just nice once in a while to do something that you know won't break, crash or corrupt on you.   On that note, here's a few pictures of some prep work for a background painting that I'm doing:

Updates on this painting are to be due soon.  I'm greatly overdue for sleep, so it's time to hit the hay.

People Drawing and More

A quick update before I hit the hay tonight.  Here's some more people, including a bit from life drawing sessions:

Using some neat photoshop techniques, I also painted this city skyline:

And that'll be all for now.  Progress on a 3D animation project is going fairly well, so I might include pictures of that soon.
